How To Get From Here To There Without Really Trying When I look at my recent and past images, I realize I am photographing the artifacts of our culture. The by-products of our actions seem to tell the human story, or at least part of it. When I was twelve, I picked up a camera and started to take pictures, not having the faintest idea of what it means or what makes a good photograph. Nearly fifty years later, I still don’t know and I’ve never stopped photographing. I started taking pictures as a typical New York City street photographer; a 60’s protest photographer. Then in the early 70's, things changed for me. I went to the Rhode Island School of Design for an MFA, and under the influence of the great photographer Aaron Siskind, I morphed into an abstract artist. Today, I’m more of a mixed bag, taking pictures of whatever strikes my fancy or making composite images in Photoshop. My passion to make photographs today is stronger than ever. I still have an unpolished idea of what makes a good image, and I’m constantly amazed by other photographer’s images I would not have taken, and yet, love so dearly. I have learned a thing or two along the way and have a good understanding of the state of mind needed to make pictures, and grow as an artist. And that is what this website is about, and how it is organized. Paraphrasing the words of the great Gary Winogrand, I take photographs to see what something looks like as a photograph. An image is very different from the thing itself being photographed; love and respect both. Photographs are everywhere, hidden in plain sight for those who are open and reflective. The Website Home The website opens to the home page. A slide show plays, displaying random images from within the galleries. You can return to the home page by clicking the logo “David Reinfeld Photography” in the upper left hand corner. Overview All galleries are shown. Clicking on a gallery brings you to that gallery. This is one way to navigate to images; there are others. Photographs, Composite Images, and Recent Work Click on any of the these categories, and drop down galleries appear. The images in Photographs are more traditional; the images in Composite Images are composites made in Photoshop, using the photographs I’ve made over the years. Recent work is a gallery of images I’ve made over the past year or so. It is updated frequently, so check back to see what I’m up to. Info My bio, to learn a bit more about me.
